India Will Have Over 900 Million Internet Users by 2023, Cisco Report Claims

A Cisco report said on Tuesday that the number of Internet users in India will be over 907 million by 2023, accounting for 64 percent of the country’s population.

More than half a billion people are already using the Internet in India.

In India, there will be 966 million mobile phone users by 2023, up from 763 million or 56 percent of the population in 2018, according to Cisco’s Internet Report 2018-2023.

While smartphones will account for 38 percent (781 million) of all networked devices by 2023, connected TVs will account for 12 percent (255.8 million) of all networked devices, according to projections.

He added that there will be 2.1 billion devices connected to the network in the country by 2023.

The report added that there will be 67.2 million connections to the fifth generation network in India by 2023, which means that one of every 20 networks will be 5 GB by that time in the country, while the 4G networks will be 53.1 percent of the total mobile phone connections By 2023, 3G and below communications will be 38.7 percent of all mobile connections.

An increasing number of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, such as smart meters, video surveillance, healthcare monitoring, transportation and parcel or asset tracking, contribute significantly to the growth of devices and connections in the country.

By 2023, the report said, M2M communications will be 25 percent of the total devices and communications.

Social networks, video streaming, downloads, business productivity, e-commerce, and games will drive the continued growth of mobile apps, with nearly 46.2 billion downloads by 2023.

According to projections, there will be 1.4 billion mobile devices in India by 2023, i.e. 697.4 million devices connected to a wired / Wi-Fi network.

The report added that 66 percent of the world’s population (5.3 billion people) will be Internet users by 2023.
